New Lawn Care
Watering
- Water daily for the first 7 to 10 days
- Water every other day for 7 days
- Water every 3 days for the next 7 days
- Water every 4 to 5 days thereafter if no rainfall
Fertilizing
- Fertilize with a 2:1:1 ration (example – 15:8:7) during:
- April
- Mid-June
- August
- Fertilize with a 1:2:1 ration (example – 10:20:10) during:
- November
Mowing
- Mow, 2 weeks after planting, at a low setting (1″ – 1.5″) through June
- In July and August, raise mower 1 notch (2″ – 2.5″)
- In November raise mower to 2.5″ or higher
- Leave grass tall for a winter blanket
Hints
- Scalp and clean up yard in March
- Water in the morning to avoid fungus
- Fertilize 3 to 4 weeks after planting using 2:1:1 ratio
- Treat for grubs in late July or early August
- Don’t use a weed and feed for the first year
- Water before any severe cold temperatures
- Treat for fungus with fungicide when circles first appear
- Spray infected area, then spray entire yard
- Re-spray infected area in 2 weeks
